Stephen Gan

Creative Director, Harper's Bazaar, co-founder of Visionaire, and Editor-in-Chief of V Magazine

Stephen Gan is the creative director of Harper’s Bazaar, and the founder and creative director of the quarterly fashion magazine Visionaire.

In April 1991, Gan launched the cutting-edge fashion magazine Visionaire, each issue of which is a limited edition collector’s piece. Gan and his two collaborators, Cecilia Dean and James Kaliardos, designed Visionaire to showcase work from the some of the world’s most innovative and provocative artists, including photographers, fashion designers, painters and architects. Contributors have included Tom Ford, Karl Lagerfeld, Alexander McQueen, Kate Moss, Paloma Picasso, Catherine Deneuve, Mario Testino and Bruce Weber. In September 1999, Gan also began publishing V, a bi-monthly fashion magazine. In addition, Gan helps oversee The Visionaire Gallery, an exhibition space in New York’s SoHo district.

Prior to launching Visionaire, Gan served as fashion editor at Details. He has also been a contributing style editor to Harper's Bazaar, a freelance art director, and a photographer. Gan has directed many advertising campaigns including Calvin Klein featuring Kate Moss, Dior Homme, and Shiseido. He has designed catalogues for fashion exhibitions at the Louvre and New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art. He has also collaborated on two books, Visionaire's Fashion 2000: Designers at the Turn of the Millennium and Visionaire’s Fashion 2001: Designers of the New Avant Garde.
